About Us

The Friendly Fisherman Restaurant, a beloved seafood establishment in John’s Pass, Madeira Beach, Florida, has been serving fresh Gulf seafood since 1978. Founded by Captain Wilson Hubbard, a pioneer in the local fishing industry, the restaurant was an extension of his passion for sharing the area’s rich fishing traditions with visitors.

Captain Hubbard’s journey began in 1929 when he moved to Pass-a-Grille and started renting rowboats and cane poles to tourists. He later established Hubbard’s Marina, offering fishing excursions that became a staple for locals and tourists alike. In 1976, he relocated his operations to John’s Pass, where he played a significant role in developing the area into a bustling fishing village.

The Friendly Fisherman Restaurant was named after one of Hubbard’s boats and quickly became a community favorite. Known for its “cook your catch” service, patrons could bring in their fresh catch from a day of fishing and have it prepared by the restaurant’s chefs. This unique offering, combined with its waterfront views and fresh seafood dishes like grouper sandwiches and shrimp platters, solidified its reputation as a must-visit dining spot. Today, the Hubbard family continues to operate the Friendly Fisherman Restaurant, maintaining its legacy as a cornerstone of John’s Pass Village. The establishment not only offers delicious seafood but also serves as a testament to the area’s maritime heritage and the Hubbard family’s enduring commitment to the community.
