Captain Wilson Hubbard and his family have long enjoyed local prominence in the fishing industry. They also take pride in a nationwide following of visitors who return year after year to fish aboard the well-known "Friendly Fisherman" or the more recently acquired "Florida Fisherman II". The Hubbard family invites you to try your hand at deep sea fishing while you're here, offering trips to suit just about any fisherman: from 1/2 day trips in the morning or afternoon, all day trips, and even a true fishing adventure which will take you on an overnight trip to the rich offshore fishing grounds in the Gulf of Mexico. Ask for details and schedules at Hubbard's Marina, two doors west of the restaurant. Remember, we cook your catch!
We hope you'll enjoy sampling the fresh local fish here at the Friendly Fisherman, and that you will take the time to visit the attractive businesses here at John's Pass Village. The fishermen of John's Pass, her artists and craftsmen, her architecture and industry all reflect her continuing ties with the sea.
Founded in 1978, The Friendly Fisherman began as a modest seafood spot, born from the Gulf’s rich fishing traditions and the Hubbard family’s passion for sharing the area’s fresh catch with visitors. As Hubbard’s Marina grew, the family embraced the opportunity to incorporate the restaurant into their operations, creating a unique space where guests could enjoy a day of fishing followed by expertly prepared seafood dishes, all with a view of the waters where it all started. Today, The Friendly Fisherman proudly serves fresh, locally sourced seafood and is renowned for its grouper sandwiches, shrimp platters, and fish tacos—prepared with recipes lovingly passed down through the Hubbard family.
